Personality: While the hard events of their lifetimes pushed Akri inward, to Z'reis it did the opposite; he lashed outward, anger and resentment making him brooding and unpredictable. Though since escaping his father's abuse and the tough wilderness, he has calmed down somewhat, but is still quite temperamental. Quick to take sides and hold grudges, he's headstrong and arrogant. He never was a quiet boy to begin with; always outspoken and having no trouble showing his feelings about anything. He's easily provoked, and can be nasty when angered.
Z'reis is quick to form boundaries, and that, unfortunately, also means quick to make enemies. It took very little persuading on Luci and Wrath's part to convince him that Black Obsidian Weyr needed to be taken down, that the Wrathcursed dragons were superior to the traditional colors. In fact, it was very easy for him to think so; Z'reis needs someone to blame for things he's angry at; including his own mistakes. Someone to take out his anger on. It makes him feel better to have a goal, to have someone else be at fault rather than him.
It was also easy for another reason; in Wrath and her family, their riders and thei little hidden community, Z'reis found a place where he belonged for the first time since young childhood. He didn't belong in his own home after his mother died; he didn't feel like he belonged with Akri the month or two they spent in the wilderness. He didn't belong in the hold he was in before Impressing. But he found a home among the riders of the Wrathcursed riders, many kindred spirits that took him in and were good to him, that he felt could understand him. They became his family, and he would do anything to protect them, and also to stay on their side. Z'reis is very like that; fiercely loyal to those he holds deal, and feircely protective. He owes Luci not only his chance to Impress, and a chance to finally have a family and fit in, but also the life of his dragon; without her, Iashorinth may have died, and he won't hear a word against her, nor will he tolerate hearing anything bad about her.
Z'reis has a competitive drive that is good sometimes, and bad others. He's stubborn and not the best listener, except when it is to Luci; mostly oblivious to her fierce nature, he views her almost as a mother figure, and certainly as an admired leader. Sometimes he can be a bit rowdy, too.
Z'reis isn't all bad. He can be a good companion, and certainly is willing to join any of his friends in any game or competition or meal, or any occasion. He's actually quite a friendly person to be round, providing you are someone he trusts and looks up to. Otherwise he is generally aloof and quiet. Much of his fierce nature comes from his great need to put himself always out of reach of blame; his fear that someday he may be forced to face that he is at fault, and not someone else.
Family: BOW Sr. Weyrwoman Akri of Violet Lunith - Sister
Pets: none
History: Z'reis was born Zareisel, to Aken and Zerila, and he lived with them and his older sister Akri. For several years life was well; they never really saw much of their father as he was out much of the time, but their mother loved and cared for them. All went well....until Zerila died of a sickness, leaving Aken alone to care for Akri and Zareisel.
Whether it was grief for his past wife or a new freedom to show his true nature, Aken turned ruthless. He set his children to work, fast and hard, and beat them if they did not do as they were told, or if the job was not done well enough or quick enough. It was far too much for Zareisel to bear, being little more than ten Turns at the time. Slowly he began to hate his father, anger and despair mingling into one hard emotion, and often wished wilth all his heart that he could simply beat the man back. And when his sister Akri held him back, when she barred the way when he was angry enough to indeed try and hurt his father, he got angry with her too. He did not understand as she did, that it would only make things worse for both of them. Zareisel felt isolated, alone, and began to convince himself that nobody at all cared about him.
When Akri told him late one night they were running away, some of that feeling went away; she did care, she was going to help him escape, get away from their terrinble father. But resentment burned after the first few days in the wilderness, when it stopped being fun and started being serious - and hard. He began to resent his sister once more for putting them through this, for insisting he work hard and run fast and do what she tell him. Again he fell sullen and angry.
A Searchrider finally found them, and Zareisel thought he could burst with relief. But when it was only Akri who was chosen to go to a Weyr, and not him, he boiled with resentment and ill will, the feeling that nobody cared about him coming back full force. He was taken to a hold, instead of to the marvelous, mysterious Weyr he had heard about and dreamed of but never been to - where his sister was going but not him. He was sent to live in some old Hold instead, where he lived for a time with a foster mother who seemed hardly bothered about him, where the few friends he managed to make were driven away by his sullen nature.
One day, when he was sixteen Turns, he out side the hold by himself, down by the river and stewing in his own feelings; he just needed to be away from others for a while. He saw a dragon in the air, and stood up, shouting at it, gesturing madly for it to come down. It did; it was a green, one that had oddly male proportions; Zareisel didn't care about its abnormality, though. He demanded of the rider to take him to whatever Weyr he was from - and to his immense surprise the man agreed immediately. He took him to a place called Sunset Weyr, and told him he was free to stay as a candidate.
Zareisel learned that nearly all the dragons at Sunset Weyr were the opposite gender they were supposed to be, just like the male green. Rather than being suspicious of it, he immediately took to the idea; it was different, it was unique - it made them special. All of the gender-swapped dragons came from the Weyrwoman's dragon, Gold Wrath. Luci and Wrath had built up Sunset Weyr from nothing, and Zareisel admired her for it.
Soon after arriving, he Impressed to a male Crimson, a Ruby, from one of Wrath's clutches. Iashorinth was the last to hatch from his clutch; something had made the egg harder than it should have been, and the Ruby almost hadn't hatched at all. It was with the help of Wrath that he managed to punch through the shell, but he still may have died if Luci hadn't been there to help.
Even more so now that he actually had a dragon, Zareisel, now Z'reis, felt as if he finally, after so many years, had a family again - here were people who actually cared for him, who counted him as one of them. It was a wonderful feeling. He wanted to be as much a part of that as possible, so he threw himself into his lessons, and agreed vehemently with everything that Luci and Wrath proposed. Iashorinth was of a high enough color to be recognized by Wrath, if not especially valued - he is just below the rank where he may be deemed especially valuable, but highenough that he is not simply dismissed; therefore Z'reis fancies himself at least in her good books, and with a chance at rank someday.
When Luci and Wrath made it known that she wanted to take advantage of Black Obsidian Weyr's Queenless state, Z'reis of course was quite enthusiastic. He would do anything to get Luci what she wants, and if he helps enough he may just gain favor in her eyes. But what he doesn't know is that his own sister is now Senior Weyrwoman of Black Obsidian Weyr - and the last thing hee expects is for old wounds to be reopened so.

Dragon
Dragon name: Iashorinth [eye-ash-or-ihnth]
Dragon color: Ruby; Iashorinth is a deep blood crimson, and when the light hits his hide it reflects with a brighter red that can be startling. Despite his hard beginning, he has grown into a large, powerful Ruby, the largest of his middle-ranking peers.
Dragon age: 3, almost 4 Turns
Dragon personality: Iashorinth has been nurtured from the start to look up to and respect his mother Wrath - and also taught that she should have as muc hpower as she can hold. Iashorinth is also power-hungry; like his rider he wants to gain favor in his mother's eyes, wants a ranking position, wants to be recognized. He is calculating and logical, but also fierce in his ways, much like his rider. He has a surprisingly playful side though, and loves to play and interact with all his siblings and half-siblings, and is more willing than most dragons to speak to humans.
